Introduction to Core Basics

Core Basics are the foundational me+ recovery movements and exercises that can be started pre-surgery, in the post-surgical phase or any time after surgery, including by those people who live with parastomal hernias. The foundations include simple diaphragmatic breathing techniques, connecting the pelvic floor and core abdominal muscles, learning how to manage intrabdominal pressure, including when getting in or out of bed or chairs and taking part in everyday movements such as lifting, coughing and sneezing.

Diaphragm rib breathing technique

 

A simple technique to help with correct breathing, engage the deep core muscles and reduce intra-abdominal pressure. Useful equipment:: cushion, long scarf or theraband.
