  • Ileostomy

    Surgical creation of an opening into the ileum, with the creation of an abdominal stoma.

  • Ileum

    Lower third division of the small intestine, so called because of its numerous coils or convolutions.

  • Incontinence

    Inability to control the natural evacuations.

  • Inflammation

    Tissue reaction to injury; redness, swelling, pain, increased heat.

  • Intestine, large

    Colon.

  • Intestine, small

    Elongated tube measuring up to 22 feet in length in the adult, lying proximal to the large intestine.

  • Intravenous pyelogram

    (IVP) Radiographic visualization of the bladder and kidney through the aid of a contrast medium (dye) injected into a vein.

  • Irritation

    Inflammatory reaction of tissues to injury. Ischemia: Deficiency of blood supply to a body part, due to functional or mechanical/physical obstruction of a blood vessel.
