THE IMPORTANCE OF A SKIN BARRIER
A skin barrier adheres to your skin around the stoma, helps to protect your skin from stoma output, and attaches the pouch to your body.
SKIN BARRIERS INCLUDE:
- Standard wear Stomahesive® skin barrier, which is best when managing a colostomy.
- Longer wear Durahesive® skin barrier, which is designed to provide greater protection from effluent and barrier breakdown, and is very effective with highly irritating stoma output, typical with an ileostomy or urostomy.
- Modified versions of Stomahesive® and Durahesive® skin barrier are found on one-piece products. These modified adhesives help provide skin protection but are designed for more frequent pouching system changes.
CONVATEC SKIN BARRIERS COME IN THE FOLLOWING VARIETIES:

- Cut-to-fit—barrier can be cut to accommodate stoma size
- Pre-cut—available in a wide variety of sizes to accommodate stoma size, without the need for cutting
- Moldable—stoma opening can be molded to fit individual stoma shape and size. Creates snug fit around the stoma, providing greater leakage protection than traditional barriers.
